


What A Trained Puppy Means For You
Puppy Preschool
I have been training puppies for over forty years using positive reinforcement. This program teaches puppies during their most important phase and lays the groundwork for more advanced training. Puppies will complete a 6-week AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program. STAR stands for Socialization, Training, Activity and a Responsible owner and in six weeks of STAR puppy classes.
Puppies Learn the Following Behaviors and Skills

Free of aggression toward people and other puppies

Tolerates collar or body harness of handler’s choice

Handler can hug or hold puppy (depending on size)

Puppy allows handler to take away a treat or toy

Allows (in any position) petting by a person other than the handler

Grooming-Allows body handling and brief exam (ears, feet)

Walks on a Leash-Follows handler on lead in a straight line (15 steps)

Walks by other people-Walks on leash past other people 5-ft away

Sits on command
-
Down on command
-
Comes to handler from 5-ft when name is called

Reaction to Distractions-distractions are presented 15-ft away

Stay on leash with another person (handler walks 10 steps and returns

Crate trained

House broken

Rides well in cars
